MacART at the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability (EACD) 36th Annual Meeting – 2024

The European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability (EACD) recently gathered in Bruges, Belgium for the 2024 meeting. From May 29th – June 1st, collaborators from the university-industry-government-public sectors, families, and people with lived experience, all came together under the theme, ‘Composing a new symphony’. Within this meeting, the EACD collective worked toward new collaborations by embracing positive thinking, taking on responsibilities, and reshaping plans to meet the needs of a changing world.

MacART members who extend their work to childhood disability as a whole were thrilled to attend the 2024 EACD meeting, giving them a wonderful opportunity to share our research findings and exchange ideas. This year MacART members contributed to several poster and oral presentations.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS:

The EACD meeting was held in the beautiful Bruges, Belgium this year in 2024!
One exciting development this year is that the European Academy of Childhood Disability changed their name to the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability! The significance here is that the academy has shifted toward considering a lifespan approach to childhood-onset disability.
Dr. Patrick McPhee of the Autism Team with McMaster University presents “A patient-oriented prospective cohort study to understand functioning trajectories of autistic children: a study protocol”, a paper brought forth from a keystone project of MacART: the Pediatric Autism Research Cohort (PARC) Study!
As part of his broader presentation, MacART member Dr. Olaf Kraus de Camargo presents a slide with a poster titled “Every Child’s Story is a Treasure: Children with Disabilities and Their Parents Speak out about the Supports and Services They Need Post Covid-19 and into the Future”!
MacART member Dr. Peter Rosenbaum and the CanChild team presents about the importance of a functional approach to childhood disability!
